If it flows, dam it...

The recent floods in the Kimberley region of WA once again show that we are wasting and have wasted so many opportunities to develop Australia. Following immense rainfall from the recent Tropical Cyclone Ellie, the Fitzroy River in WA was at record flood levels at Fitzroy Crossing, 15.74m. Robert Baird, a newsreader at Perth’s 96FM, tweeted on January 5, 2023: “ Just how big are the Kimberley Floods? The Bureau of Meteorology (WA) estimates Fitzroy River flow is 60,000m3/sec. That's the highest ever recorded in Aus. Equiv to: = India's Ganges and USA's Mississippi (combined) = 1/4 of the Amazon's average flow = or, how much water Perth uses every 20 yrs.” I'll add more to this soon... In 2010, I researched potential for a Snowy-Scheme-like development of the Fitzroy River region. Below is an article I wrote for the Australian Alert Service. #kimberleyfloods
