How a Tongan volcano flooded Australia

Image
By Doug Mitchell Published in the Australian Citizens Party's Australian Alert Service , 8 February 2023 In conversations with hundreds of Australians in the last few years, a phrase commonly heard when describing weather events is the conspiratorial “it’s geoengineering”. Such claims have never been accompanied with any scientific evidence to prove them. Neither “geoengineering” nor climate change were the cause of the record rainfall seen on the Australian continent in 2022. A major contributor to this rainfall was a volcanic eruption, possibly the largest in recorded human history, whose lasting impact ought to be given much greater attention by meteorologists. Thanks to Australian Alert Service subscriber Andrew Davies for bringing this to my attention. The large eruption of the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha’apai undersea volcano in Tonga on 15 January 2022 sent ash and water vapour 57km into the atmosphere. Hunga Tonga and Hunga Ha’apai are two of 171 islands (only 45 of which are inh...

If it flows, dam it...

The recent floods in the Kimberley region of WA once again show that we are wasting and have wasted so many opportunities to develop Australia.  Following immense rainfall from the recent Tropical Cyclone Ellie, the Fitzroy River in WA was at record flood levels at Fitzroy Crossing, 15.74m. Robert Baird, a newsreader at Perth’s 96FM, tweeted on January 5, 2023: “ Just how big are the Kimberley Floods?  The Bureau of Meteorology (WA) estimates Fitzroy River flow is 60,000m3/sec. That's the highest ever recorded in Aus. Equiv to: = India's Ganges and USA's Mississippi (combined) = 1/4 of the Amazon's average flow = or, how much water Perth uses every 20 yrs.” I'll add more to this soon... In 2010, I researched potential for a Snowy-Scheme-like development of the Fitzroy River region. Below is an article I wrote for the Australian Alert Service. #kimberleyfloods

All Shook Up!

All Shook Up is how I certainly was when I learnt that Robert Sadler was part of the team that built the seismometers used on the Apollo missions. I spoke to Robert every two months from 2014 until 2021 before he passed away at age 94, and updated him of the Citizens Party's campaign. I post here the text of an article with the same title he wrote which was published in Sky and Space magazine Feb-March 2000. Thanks to Joseph Mate for the original scan! Cheers, Robert, you're in immortality!-DJM

Adopt Glass-Steagall

I said this in 2010... and 8 years later, Bob Katter introduced our Bill into Parliament! In December 2018, Senator Pauline Hanson announced on Twitter that she was going to introduce our bill into the Senate. On January 31, 2019, Jeff Morris, the CommInsure whistleblower tweeted this: Will Hayne #banksrc recommend the separation of retail banking (ala Glass–Steagall) and for an institution such as @auspost to offer nationalised banking services? — Dr Koh Whistleblower (@drkohComminsure) January 31, 2019 I certainly hope so!

One of My Life's Achievements

A follower of Australian-rules football (known as AFL , Australian Football League), in 2000 I convinced then-Football Victoria now AFL Victoria , who run the under 18 TAC Cup and ex-Victorian Football Association (VFA)/now-Victorian Football League (VFL), to setup an official website. I worked with them to set it up after the 2000 VFL and TAC Cup season and it went online soon after. As I type this post I can't locate an archive of that original site. From mid-October 2000, my Intergalactic Boundless Renaissance Operation began.

CELEBRATE SPACE EXPLORATION!

" The testimony of the ages confirms that the motions of the planets are orbicular. It is an immediate presumption of reason, reflected in experience, that their gyrations are perfect circles. For among figures it is circles, and among bodies the heavens, that are considered the most perfect. However, when experience is seen to teach something different to those who pay careful attention, namely, that the planets deviate from a simple circular path, it gives rise to a powerful sense of wonder , which at length drives men to look into causes." - Johannes Kepler, The New Astronomy. Since being captivated by Halley's Comet in 1986, I have passionately advocated that humanity must explore our universe! I watched the Space Shuttle launches, and believe we should go back to the Moon, setup a base there to launch towards Mars. China will go to the Moon to get Helium 3, which can be used for energy. Australia must setup not only a space agency, but a launch pad! The 49...
